Win a Black Magic Camera or $500its ability to make an audience laugh or smile and not the production values behind it or if it has a star name. Short Com has screened films from BAFTA nominated films and multiple award winners to simple home made films that have captured the hearts of audiences.

Short Com is a touring programme so holds various screenings through out its programme year in the UK, being screened in some of the UK’s most popular cities during key festivals. Last year Short Com screened during the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, in London and for the first time in Bristol and finished its run and closed with its award ceremony at the Glasgow Short Film Festival. One of the largest short film festivals in the UK.

Films can be no longer than 20 minutes.

Non-English language films must come with English subtitles.

Rules.

Films ideally should be no longer than twenty minutes for extended narrative based shorts. Do be warned though, usually the shorter the film the better. Our audiences are used to shorter films and it would have to be something exceptional to keep an audiences’ attention.

Send a digital copy at first. Codec H.264 is most desirable, 25 FPS. If this is a problem send a link or other file. Also please attach a still from the film.

Films can be no longer than 18 months old. Try to be honest please. *Update* Exceptions can be made for Under 18′s category.

Content must not be offensive to minorities or portray racism. Politically incorrect is okay but try to know your boundaries.

A final disclaimer. You have the right to submit the film and are responsible for any copyrighted material within your film. Short Com cannot be held responsible for the promotion and distribution of materials that contain footage or music that does not have the required legal permissions. Basically we’re not having our arse sued because you’ve been a bit lazy.

Payment: Unfortunately no one is a millionaire at Short Com, unless someone is not telling me something and we need to raise funds to pay for costs of screening events and promoting them. If submitting for the under 18′s category and you are representing a state school, charity or youth organisation, get in touch before hand.

Option 1.

A singular film submission is £10 regardless of film length.

Option 2.

Annual submission of a maximum of five films is £20, regardless of length.

Films will not be viewed until payment has been received. Once payment is received an email will be sent as confirmation, but make sure you get in touch first. Unfortunately, due to the amount of submissions we cannot give a detailed explanation why a film might not be considered, but we will try to give a little bit of feedback, after all we appreciate those who are committed to making films.

Digital certificate awarded to those screened at the awards ceremony.
